Collaborative Research & Scholarship Part 1: Charting the Course for Success

Tuesday, October 12, 2021 - 2:10pm to 3:30pm

For many fields in the sciences and humanities, working in teams or collaborating in groups of all sizes is rapidly becoming essential to address complex challenges.  Forming groups of individuals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives and expertise to work on thorny issues allows for creative thinking and problem solving. However, it also presents challenges that can include different values, personalities, and behaviors; various communication, leadership and work styles; and diverse perspectives.  Establishing the groundwork at the beginning of a collaboration or the development of a team to address these challenges is key to creating an effectively functioning group.  In the first of this two-part workshop, presenters will review the theory of successful teams/collaborations and discuss strategies for establishing and launching a successful research group.
