Spreading More Light and Kindness

Dear Students, Staff and Faculty,

As our nation mourns the loss of innocent lives in recent shootings in both Pittsburgh and Louisville, we want to express our sincere condolences to the families, friends and communities of the victims, and to stress that our UNH community stands united against hate and intolerance.

Words fail to describe the horror we felt as we learned of these crimes, with 11 killed and six wounded as they gathered for Sabbath at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, just a few days after two African-Americans were gunned down at a Lexington grocery store.

In responding to this terror, we must reaffirm our commitment to peace, tolerance and respect both as individuals and as a community. We can honor the victims by doing good acts, by supporting one another, by standing up for religious freedom and by celebrating the rich diversity that makes our community so beautiful, vibrant and strong.

This week, as we remember the victims, let us recommit ourselves to spreading more light, kindness and understanding in caring for each other.

Thank you and best wishes,
