What is Quarantined Email?

by UNH IT Staff

Over the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed a change in how your links appear in your UNH emails, as well as an increase in emails going to Junk or Quarantine. UNH recently moved to a new email gateway, which monitors how emails are sent and received to protect the university from internal and external cyber-threats. This new email hygiene and defense system is provided by Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection (ATP).

While circumstances forced UNH to make this change quickly during a difficult time, the university is now in a better position to address malicious mail.

Microsoft ATP provides the following features:

  • Scans links and attachments for malicious content
  • Defends against spam, phish and impostor emails
  • Protects against internal compromised senders
  • Remediates delivered email later found to be malicious
  • Improves reporting and threat analytics

As this is a new system, there are numerous configuration changes that will need to be made over time to ensure the best experience for everyone. Please bear with us as we help to make UNH email safer for all.

You can learn about taking advantage of Microsoft ATP features on the UNH IT Knowledge Base: https://td.unh.edu/TDClient/KB/ArticleDet?ID=2240
