myCourses by Canvas operates on a three-week release cycle through which features are added or updated. Academic Technology Teaching and Learning Support blogs highlights from myCourses’ production release notes, a link to these notes, and other relevant content in the days surrounding a production release.

The Canvas updates for August 25th involved some updates to current features and some bug fixes.  This blog post focuses on the updates that apply to faculty and students.

Updated Features:

Calendar Scheduler:  The Calendar Scheduler tool is included in the Calendar Feed link which means that appointments and details appears on the external calendar allowing for faculty to view appointment details without having to access Canvas. The appointment details include the scheduled appointments, the associated course and any student comments.

The student Calendar Feed has not changed in that they can see their reserved appointment group times slot but any comments to the instructor are not included.

Anonymous Instructor Annotations:   If the instructor has checked the Anonymous Instructor Annotations option in the Assignment, then when the instructor uses the Speedgrader to add annotations on the submission then instructor's name is replaced with "Grader".  The student sees the comment as added by "Grader".  This annonymous option does not apply to the Comments field in the Speedgrader.

Dashboard: Students no longer have to manually update the Dashboard To-Do list to “Mark as Done”.  The Mark as Done Module requirement now synchronizes with the students Dashboard List View and Card View To-Do list by automatically marking items as being complete.  This update does not support Pages listed in more than one Module.

Learning Mastery

Instructor feature: The Learning Mastery Gradebook now includes filters to hide outcomes with no results and hide students with no results.

Student feature: The Learning Mastery Gradebook includes an information icon that display details about the outcome including last assessment, calculation method, and mastery level.  Students will be able to view the details for individual outcomes.
