COVID-19 Early Retirement Program (CERP)

This revised and enhanced COVID-19 Early Retirement Program replaces the previously announced COVID-19 early retirement program for non-union employees.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicant is a UNH status (benefits eligible) staff or faculty employee, (excluding Executive Officers and Academic Administrators) not covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and is in a position with funding provided by UNH that is equal to or greater than 50%.
  • Requested retirement date is June 30, 2021 or earlier
  • Applicant will be 59 1/2 years of age or older on or before the approved retirement date
  • Applicant will have at least 10 Years of status service (benefits eligible), on or before the approved retirement date
  • Applications must be submitted by October 15, 2020
Program Details

The applicant's request for the voluntary program and proposed retirement date will be subject to approval by Senior Leadership.

    • 75% of annual base salary paid out as a salary continuance over 20 pay periods (9 months) following the approved departure date
    • Continued USNH medical coverage until the age of 65
      • If under age 65 and employee opts to waive medical coverage at the time of separation, they will receive an additional one-time payment of $15,000
        • In waiving coverage, the employee will not be eligible to be covered as a dependent or spouse on another employee’s USNH medical plan. In addition, if the employee elected the Medicare Complementary Plan (MCP) retiree medical plan in 1994 instead of the Additional Retirement Contribution (ARC), they will no longer be eligible for the MCP.
    • If age 62 to 65:
      • Additional $500 per year of status service
    • If age 65 or older:
      • Additional $1,000 per year of status service
Application Process

Details regarding the application process, including the form to apply and pertinent timeline information was sent to eligible employees via email to UNH addresses - July 2, 2020. In addition, hard copies will be mailed to permanent mailing addresses on record.
