Your How-to Guide There is denying that you can learn a lot of things on social media and the internet. Think of all the advertisements and sponsorships for health products that you see on a daily basis. Although every once in a while, you may find an advertisement for something that may actually be helpful when it comes to taking care of your overall health and wellbeing (like a new pair of running shoes, or a book to help you manage stress). But there is also a lot of stuff that can... Read More
How Herbal Tea Can Improve Your Wellness If you have ever wanted to start drinking tea, I’m sure you have gone to the supermarket and have been completely overwhelmed by the selection. There’s black tea, green tea, fruit teas, teas you have never heard of… And so much more. Selecting the right tea can also be a challenge because of the caffeine content. Different types of teas have different levels of caffeine, unlike coffee which is either caffeinated or decaffeinated. When I started... Read More
How to Take Care of Yourself After Getting a Sunburn Although the summer is soon coming to a close (sigh). We still have a few good days left where it will be hot and sunny all day long. Whether you find yourself at the beach, lake, mountains, or even in your own backyard; the risk of sunburn is still high. And even though you put on sunscreen and wear a hat, it can be super easy to forget that sunscreen only works well throughout the day if you are regularly reapplying it. Trust me, I forget... Have you considered this UNH service? Recently, I had an opportunity to sit down (via Zoom) with UNH Graduate Student Kelsey Brandon to talk about the CHHS Marriage and Family Therapy Center. Before meeting Kelsey, I had never heard of the Marriage and Family Therapy Center. And it turns out I’m not alone as Kelsey told me that a lot of people in the UNH community are unfamiliar with this (amazing) mental health service. The Marriage and Family Therapy Center is a therapy center that is run... Read More

Taking Care of Yourself and Others with A Cold During a Pandemic Although there have been a number of awful things that have resulted in the pandemic, there have also been a few good things that have changed that we all hope stay permanent. These are things like working from home, employers giving ample sick time, people finally understanding the concept of personal space in public places… The list goes on and on. One of my favorite things though, is that I have not been sick since three... Read More
How to Spice Up Your Meals Think of the last time you sat down for a home cooked meal. You took your first bite, and loved it, but something was missing. Most likely you reached for the salt to add a little bit to spice it up and add more flavor. Although this is perfectly fine every once in a while, keeping sodium (salt) intake low is key to a healthy heart across the life span. Currently, the recommendation for sodium intake is less than 2,300 milligrams per day which is approximately one... Read More

The Benefits and Why We Shouldn’t Discredit It Think of the last time you went to the gym and used the cardio equipment. Whether you were on the treadmill, elliptical, or bike; odds are, you saw someone walking on the treadmill. When you saw this, maybe even for a split second, you thought to yourself “what a waste of time.” Or “that doesn’t even count as real exercise.” I think we’ve all done something like this before. But before we continue to judge, I think it’s time we reassess and see... Read More
How Therapy Can Benefit Everyone For a long time, mental health and therapy just seemed to be one of taboo topics. Something you really shouldn’t be talking about, and if you did, people may pass judgment or stigma. Over time though, countless nonprofits and social justice groups have been advocating for the de-stigmatization of struggles with mental health. Since the start of the pandemic, it seems as though it is much easier to talk about mental health and that is more “okay” to bring it up... Read More
