Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month? National Nutrition Month is sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year’s theme is “Bite Into A Healthy Lifestyle”, which encourages people to create eating and exercise plans that are focused on eating fewer calories, making informed food choices, and getting daily exercise in order to be a healthy weight. “National Nutrition Week” was started in 1973, but became National Nutrition Month in 1980 after a growing... Since February is National Boost Your Self Esteem Month, here are five tips to help you keep your head high during these cold winter days! 1. Exercise. Not only is exercise physically healthy for you, but it also will keep your confidence high. Thirty minutes of aerobic exercise will release beta-endorphins that increase feelings of well being, and lower levels of cortisol, which will lower your stress and anxiety. The Hamel Recreation Center is a great place to exercise here at UNH! It has... Read More
While the dining halls are certainly a place that students enjoy, over 500 faculty and staff members enjoy it also! Each UNH faculty and staff meal plan gives you a set number of meals, which are good at Holloway Commons, Stillings Dining Hall, and Philbrook Dining Hall. Meals from your plan can be used to take a meal to go from any Dining Hall and also as a Meal Exchange at Union Court, during specific times. You can even use a meal on a guest! Your meal plan can be paid through payroll... Read More
What better way to keep warm this winter than by getting your body moving while experiencing the outdoors? What do you do to make a Healthy UNH? At the beginning of each semester, I create a master schedule that includes my classes, work shifts, club meetings, and time to work out. That way, I won’t feel stressed out about spending time at the gym because I already scheduled it in.
Favorite Food: Mashed Potatoes
Favorite Movie: The Great Gatsby
Favorite Book: My Sister’s Keeper
What place in the world do you most want to visit & why? I have yet to leave the country, so I would visit almost anywhere outside of the United States.
Favorite Dining Hall and why: Stillings, because it’s less busy than Holloway Commons and Philbrook, and it’s close enough to the gym to easily walk there afterwards.
What do you love about UNH? I love how every day you can find something new to do at UNH. There are so many clubs, organizations, and events to be apart of. As a transfer last semester, I found it really easy to get involved in the UNH community.
As a Healthy UNH Intern, what are you most excited about? I am excited to develop better writing skills and inform others, including myself, about health-related issues and UNH events by writing Healthy UNH blogs.
