Swipe It Forward
Don’t Go Hungry!
Have you, or someone you know, ever gone through the day hungry? Are you interested in supporting those on campus who are food insecure? A new UNH program, Swipe It Forward could help.
Swipe It Forward is a new program here on campus aimed to help connect UNH students in need with access to meals on campus via a “virtual food bank.” The project was initiated by senior Nutrition and Dietetics Major, Alana Davidson. Davidson conducted a survey on campus that found about 25% of the 1,000 students that completed it to go through the day hungry. This is an unsettling amount, and where Swipe It Forward comes in to help!
How it works:
- Students with “Swipe” meal plans can donate up to 15 swipes to the virtual food bank. This can be done at the Dining and ID Office located in the MUB
- Faculty, staff, students and community members can donate any amount of money to the virtual food bank here
- Those in need can be referred, either by themselves or another person, to Health Services, an advisor, or Counseling Center and other departments.
- Depending upon need students can receive up to 40 swipes to be added to their IDs and used the same as any other student with a meal plan
The best thing about this program? The swipes in the virtual food bank never expire! So if you or your friends have excess swipes as the end of the semester approaches, don’t waste them. Donate them to Swipe It Forward and help take a step to end hunger on our campus!
