If you have a physically demanding jobor lifestyle, it is crucial to understand how your psychological well being affects your physical health and performance. Some ways in which poor psychological health has been shown to have a negative impact on physical health include:
Depression has been linked to:
- 67% increased risk of death from heart disease
- 50% increased risk of death from cancer
Also, your body responds to the wat you think, feel, and act. When you are experiencing poor mental and emotional health, your immune system weakens. When you are stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, your body reacts. For example. you might develop high blood pressure or a stomach ulcer after a stressful event.
Steps you can take to improve your psychological well being include:
- Practice relaxation methods such as meditation regularly
- Eat a well-balanced, nutritious diet
- Get enough sleep
- Exercise regularly
