The Benefits of Mindfulness

Do you ever feel like you're in a fog or “out of it” during stressful times? Being mindful can actually help alleviate these feelings. You may have heard of the term “mindfulness” but may not understand what it means to be mindful. According to the American Psychological Association, mindfulness is “a moment-to-moment awareness of one's experience without judgment” and is considered a “state and not a trait” that can be practiced.

Being mindful is being aware of your feelings and experiences without passing judgement on them. There are many simple ways to practice mindfulness such as meditation, yoga, or simply by observing your breathing. These practices can help to cultivate a sense of calmness and clarity.

Practicing mindfulness has many benefits including:

  • stress reduction
  • improved focus
  • less emotional reactivity
  • better cognitive flexibility
  • more relationship satisfaction
  • improved focus

It’s time to get out of that fog and by practicing mindfulness you can create a better sense of mental wellbeing and improve your overall stress level.
