Staying safe and having fun this summer

As more and more people are getting vaccinated and restrictions are lifting; many people are feeling the travel bug. The desire to leave the house for a week (or a few days) to be somewhere new and have some fun. Whether you want to get on a plane and fly to the other side of the country, or pack up the car and head to the mountains for the weekend; I think we are all feeling the travel bug in some sort of way.

Now that we are heading into the summer season, you may be turning this desire into action by making real travel plans this summer! If this is what you are doing, there are a few things to keep in mind. Here is a list of the biggest tips for staying safe and having fun on your summer getaways.

  • Vaccine! Whether you are traveling domestically or internationally, be prepared to show proof of a vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test. If you are not yet vaccinated, give yourself around 72 hours ahead of time to get your test. If you are vaccinated, photocopy your card and laminate the copy. This way you will have a backup copy and won’t have to worry about losing the original.

  • Rethink your Accommodations! To prevent contracting COVID-19 or becoming a close contact; avoid that quarantine by rethinking your accommodations. Instead of an expensive hotel, stay at an AirBNB or Vrbo. Instead of taking public transportation; rent a car or bike.

  • Get Outdoors! Avoid the crowded areas by making the great outdoors the focal point of your vacation. Ditch the city and head to the national parks or the countryside.

  • Keep the mask and hand sanitizer! Even though your hometown might not have many COVID-19 protocols, the place you’re going to may have extensive ones. Try to respect the locals by abiding by their protocols.

There are so many other tips that I could list, but the most important by far is to be flexible! Keep in mind that the pandemic still isn’t technically over and that things are changing everyday. Stay flexible by having backup plans and doing your research before you decide to go anywhere. Now get out there and have some fun while staying safe!

Happy travels!
