Simplify Your Exercise Routine

Are you in a workout rut? Do you feel like you are wasting an hour and a half at the gym and still not feeling productive? You may need to take a step back and reevaluate your exercise routine. Here are 3 ways to change up your workout so you can feel your best!

  1. Change your warm-up. If you have been spending 10 minutes on the treadmill to warm-up, switch to a shorter routine such as jumping jacks or squats. This will work different muscle groups and get your heart rate pumping before your workout.
  2. Try a new type of exercise. If you only weight lift or do cardio, try doing the other and see how you feel. Or if you want to give Zumba, Pilates, or spinning a go, check out classes at your gym. The Hamel Recreation Center at UNH has a ton of group exercise offerings. Just make sure to start small so you don’t strain your body too much. 
  3. Take a break from the gym! You may want to simplify your workout altogether. If the weather is nice, consider going for a long walk outside or doing a home workout instead of the gym. This change can be refreshing and you can become aware of other forms of physical activity that you enjoy.   

Remember, exercise should make you feel good and you should do what makes you the happiest. Don’t stress and do what is best for you!
