How To Incorporate Exercise Into Your Schedule

Finding time to go to the gym can be difficult. When trying to balance classes, work, internships, homework, and social life, it can make it seem like there is no time at all for fitness. However, there are countless benefits to exercise including helping to boost your immune system, improve brain performance, and sharpen your memory. It is important to find time to fit exercise into your schedule, so if you’re struggling to find time for the gym, here are some tips.

  • Timing:If you have class later in the day, try to hit the gym before class. If you have early classes, hit the gym right after. Finding times in your schedule where you do not have any commitments will allow you to figure out times that you can consistently go to the gym each week.
  • Group Exercise:Group exercise classes are set for a specific time every week, and are very helpful if you are a beginner. If you find a couple that you like, you can count on the fact that you will have a way to workout at a specific time every week.
  • Find some Friends:Find a friend or two to go to the gym with you a couple of times a week. This way, there will be someone else holding you accountable to your plans if you feel like bailing. You will also be able to help motivate your friends if they are struggling to get the exercise they need.

There are a lot of great resources at UNH to help you stay fit including the Hamel Recreation CenterWildcat Workout ProjectGroup Exercise classes, the College Woods Trail, and so much more. You can find information about all of the programs mentioned above by looking at the physical activity section of the Healthy UNH website!
