How Walking Every Day Is Beneficial To Your Health and Wellness
Walking is an extremely effective activity for your wellness. The former director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Thomas Frieden, called walking “the closest thing we have to a wonder drug”. Walking boasts a variety of benefits that could positively impact your health.
- According to Harvard health researchers, walking briskly for an hour everyday cuts the effects of obesity-promoting genes.
- Walking for a minimum of twenty minutes a day, five days a week has been shown to increase immunity function.
- Studies have shown that walking can curb cravings of sugary foods, the next time you start to crave some candy, get up and take a little walk!
- Walking has been known to help improve your mood, and the exposure to the outdoors has numerous mental health benefits!
Walking everyday can seem frightening and like a big time commitment. Start small with ten minute intervals three times a day, Try taking a walk in College Woods on the College Woods Trail or use the UNH Campus Walking Guide for more ideas.
