Chasing a Runner’s High Outside

Why Running Outside is Better than Running on a Treadmill

Let’s face it: exercise is important. It’s nice to be dry and running inside on a treadmill when the weather is rainy or cold, but there’s no way to get all the benefits from outside exercise when you’re inside at the gym.

Experts agree that running outside is better than running on a treadmill. “Running indoors requires less energy expenditure because the belt is moving for you, there is flat terrain for the entirety of your run, and you’ll experience no wind or air resistance.”

Getting physical outside is linked with these health benefits, too:

1. An increase in Vitamin D.

2. Less screen time.

3. Increased happiness.

4. Improved concentration.

5. Faster healing.
