On-campus workout programs for all fitness levels

Are you stressed, tired, and sleep-deprived from your busy schedule?  There is one “medication” that can help with that: exercise.  A regular schedule of physical activity will have beneficial effects on both the mind and the body.

Along with weight management, regular physical activity will help to:

  • Reduce risk of chronic diseases;
  • Strengthen bones and muscles for use in daily activities;
  • Reduce stress and anxiety;
  • Regulate sleep patterns; and
  • Boost energy.

Want to start exercising but not sure how?

UNH Athletics and Healthy UNH’s Wildcat Workout Project can help you get started.  UNH employees can attend free group fitness classes led by professional instructors from UNH Athletics.  During each class, the instructor focuses on cardio, strength, core and flexibility as they modify exercises based on the group’s fitness level.  Each fitness class lasts about 45-60 minutes and begins at 6:30am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and at 12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Jerry Azumah Strength Center in the Field House.

Need a more flexible workout schedule? Try the Employee Fitness Program. The exercise facility located in the Field House on the UNH-Durham campus is approximately 3,600 square feet in size.  Exercise equipment includes True treadmills, StarTrac and Octane elliptical trainers, LifeFitness Exercise cycles (upright and recumbent), Schwinn AirDyne cycles, StairMaster step machines, Concept II rowers, Expresso (computerized) cycles, Nautilus strength stations, free weights and a variety of core and balance training equipment. All faculty and staff are eligible to use the exercise facility.

Need more guidance? UNH Campus Recreation provides personal training programs that can help you jump start your fitness goals at your own time.  For $25, a personal trainer can teach you how to use equipment in the fitness center, give you ideas on planning exercise routines, and help you get started with a basic workout program.

Use your resources at UNH to incorporate regular physical activity into your schedule and take control over your physical and mental wellness!
