March: National Nutrition Month
Weekly Key Messages
Every year during the month of March, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics puts on their annual campaign, National Nutrition Month. Past themes have included, Eat a balanced diet every day, Choose good nutrition for today and tomorrow, and Enjoy the taste of eating right. This year’s theme is Eat Right, Bite by Bite. This theme puts emphasis on the fact that proper nutrition does not have to be complex. It also does not mean restriction. Small, practical changes are what add up and benefit your health. Each week of March focuses on something that can simplify the way to a healthier you!
Week one: Add variety to your diet – Incorporate many different fruits, vegetable, proteins, and carbohydrates to your diet and all your nutrients will be covered!
Week Two: Plan out your meals – Preparing meals ahead of time for the week can set you up for nutritional success! Spend your Sunday night’s prepping your lunches for work or school and you’ll thank yourself later!
Week Three: Cook and Prep – Challenge yourself to take a cooking lesson or ask someone you know that has cooking skill for some tips! UNH offers free cooking classes to students and staff where simple skills can be picked up!
Week Four: Visit a Registered Dietitian – If you think there is a gap in your nutrition that you just can’t fill, seek out a dietitian's help! UNH’s Dietitian can offer your guidance of navigating the dining halls, help with special nutritional needs, and give you recipe information!
