Tips For Creating Healthy And Delicious Meals At School

It can seem challenging to find time to cook while juggling classes, extracurricular activities and a social life. Most people think that cooking a healthy and delicious meal takes too much of their time. Running to the UNH dining hall is an awesome way to have access to copious amounts of healthy food when you are in a time crunch. If you are a commuter or do not have a meal plan, finding easy, healthy and delicious recipes to make is very important!

There are so many recipes out there that take 30 minutes to an hour to make! If you have a meal plan on campus, a healthy meal can be made in minutes in the dining hall. Here are some great tips and resources that UNH has to offer about making healthy recipes at home or at the dining hall!

  1. Wellness meals – Healthy every day meal suggestions are given utilizing items that are available every day in all the different dining halls. These meals have been created with the help of the UNH Dining dietitian.
  2. What’s cooking? -  Nourish UNH peer educators offer free cooking classes that focus on creating healthy, budget-friendly, and easy to prepare meals. All classes are on Wednesdays from 4:10-5:30. Advanced registration is required!
  3. Follow the Wildcat Plate! – Healthy UNH and Dining Services adapted the USDA My Plate into the Wildcat plate. It’s an easy to follow guide to help students make healthy food choices in the dining halls. It lays out exactly what to fill your plate with.

Cooking and creating healthy, delicious meals does not have to take a lot of your time. Try out one of the tips above and you will be surprised how easy and rewarding it can be!
