How Much Water Should You Really Be Drinking?

Water consumption is tricky. It makes up the majority of your body weight so, it is important to stay on top of your water intake. It varies from person to person and is dependent on a variety of factors. How much water you need to drink will depend on how much you exercise, your health, and your living environment.

Here are a few ways that water helps your body function:

  • Water flushes out waste from the body
  • Keeps skin, eyes, nose, and mouth moist
  • Maintains and regulates body temperature
  • Aids in nutrient and mineral distribution throughout the body

It is important to stay safely hydrated to ensure that your body can function properly! Your body will give you signs if you are dehydrated.

A few signs of dehydration are:

  • Feelings of thirst or dry mouth
  • Dark yellow urine

A general rule of thumb for water consumption is 11.5 cups of water for females and 15.5 cups for males. To learn more about your water consumption, check out the Mayo Clinic for greater depth into the subject.
