Start Your Day With a Superfood-Filled Smoothie Bowl

If you happen to have perused a food magazine recently, you must have seen an article or two about smoothie bowls.  I’ve heard of a smoothie. But a smoothie bowl?

A smoothie bowl is basically a thick smoothie, eaten with a spoon, out of a bowl. Clean Eating Magazine indicates that “the thicker consistency of smoothie bowls provide a more substantial and nutrient-rich meal.” And most smoothie bowls are bursting with a superfood or two and topped with delicious offerings like fresh berries, granola, and nuts. Superfoods are foods — mostly plant-based but also some fish and dairy — thought to be nutritionally dense and thus good for one's health. Some superfoods include: 

  • Kale
  • Blueberries
  • Goji Berries
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Seaweed
  • Chia Seeds
  • Mangosteens
  • Maca Powder
  • Kefir
  • Hemp Seeds
  • Acai
  • Dragon Fruit
  • And many more!

Smoothie bowls can easily be prepared the ahead of time in anticipation of chaotic mornings. Blend and refrigerate the base, and store toppings in plastic containers or mason jars.
