UNH Athletes, Get Your fuel From the Fueling Station

What’s better than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich right before a strenuous practice? Or what about slurping down a nice, cold Trumoo Chocolate Milk after a long cross country run?

Do you ever need a quick break from practice to refuel yourself? Well, come to the new Wildcat Fueling Station before, during, or after your practice for a quick snack filled with a significant amount of calories, protein, and carbohydrates that will give you a quick burst of energy.

The Wildcat Fueling Station is a new addition to the Field House whose purpose is to help student athletes receive a proper amount of carbohydrates, protein, and energy from quick and easy snacks. Coming to the fueling station will leave you completely satisfied. Items that can be found here include:

  1. Freshly made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
  2. Chocolate milk
  3. Blueberry/peach/strawberry yogurt
  4. Granola bars
  5. Pretzels with or without peanut butter
  6. Apple/banana/orange with or without peanut butter

Athletes who come to the fueling station get one free item every single day; however, some teams are allowed two free items if the coaches feel as though their team needs a little extra boost of energy in order to succeed. It’s very necessary for athletes to utilize the food provided for them because it’s important for them to keep their energy levels up in order to perform to their best ability.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, “adequate food and fluid should be consumed before, during, and after exercise to help maintain blood glucose concentration during exercise, maximize exercise performance, and improve recovery time.” The University of New Hampshire has responded to this by creating the fueling station so that athletes will be able to fuel themselves prior to their workout, during their workout and refuel themselves after a workout.

Students working at the fueling station are here to help! Their willingness to provide athletes with the proper nutrients is supported with their knowledge on nutrition. These students are showing what they have learned throughout their educational experience by pointing athletes in the right direction with what to consume before, during and after a workout.

The fueling station is open Monday- Friday during any of the following times: 7:30AM- 9AM, 12PM- 2PM, 4PM- 6:30PM. Stop by and get your snack filled with nutrients that will help you feel completely energized at all times.
