Busy lifestyles have recently caused breakfast to become more of an afterthought than a priority. Does grabbing a banana while heading out the door sound all too familiar? As much as we would love to sit down to an omelet and cappuccino before work, most of us don’t have the time to get our healthy eating on. Well, time is no longer an excuse for skipping the most important meal of the day. Smoothies packed with nutrient rich fruits and vegetables are a great way to jumpstart your day! Not only are they quick and easy to make, but smoothies can contain up to 2-3 servings of the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables.

Although the mere sight of a green smoothie may send people in the opposite direction, the right combination of flavors can result in both a delicious and healthy morning treat. Vegetables are important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, fiber, folic acid and Vitamins A and C. In addition, diets rich in fruits and vegetables have been linked to a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain forms of cancer. You can improvise your own green smoothie by incorporating your favorite fruit ingredients, such as strawberries, apples or bananas. The natural sweet taste of fruits combines perfectly with the more bitter taste found in greens to give you a healthy smoothie that also tastes great! In addition to adding sweetness, the fiber found in fruits will help fight midmorning cravings and keep you feeling full all the way until lunch. Buying fresh produce each week can be expensive. Selecting fruits and vegetables that are in season and opting for frozen fruits can help cut the cost. Invest in a detachable blender and enjoy your morning treat on the way to work or stash it in the fridge for an afternoon boost.
