7 Reasons Why Coloring Will Save Your Academic Success

An important part of mental health is staying relaxed. Taking a break from the stressful parts of life is necessary in order to keep yourself balanced. One great way to stay relaxed is to color! I find the repetitive motion to be therapeutic, and it helps me forget about my worries of the day.

Here seven reasons why you should bust out the Crayola crayons, colored pencils, or markers:

• Increased relaxation
• Expanded creativity
• Self-expression
• More balance of body, mind and spirit
• Increased ability to focus
• Reduced anxiety and stress
• Improved fine motor and visual skills

Adult coloring books are great because they have beautiful, complicated patterns on each page. Some pages have intricate circles, and other pages are full of paisley shapes or big flowers. There are different varieties and levels of detail with every flip of a page. These books are much different from the coloring books of your childhood years.

These books are available at many places – even the UNH Bookstore! It is a great thing to have on hand if you need a mental health break from studies, work, people, or whatever is on your mind.
