Are You Self-Caring?
Now is the Time to Care for Yourself
Another year is upon us, and with a new year new stresses occur, along with the old stresses we had the previous year. The American Institute of Stress says that 44% of Americans are more stressed than they had been five years ago. This can be due to so many different situations. Maybe you indulged too much over the holidays are now stressed because you want to get back to your regular diet or start a healthier one. Maybe money is tight now. Maybe work is keeping you super busy. Regardless of the stresses that you face, it is important that every day you check in with yourself. You need to self-care.
What is self-care? Self-care is a set of skills that we implement to make sure we feel “balanced.” These skills involve you taking small steps in order to improve your physical, mental/emotional, spiritual, and relational health. Here are some examples that you can do in order to improve your overall well-being.
- Physical: Next time when you’re eating, try to think about the taste and the way your mouth feels while you are eating.
- Mental/Emotional: Always have a support group that you can go to whenever you need help or need to talk about something.
- Spiritual: Meditation is a great way to relieve stress and tune in with yourself.
- Relational: Volunteering can be very satisfying! You can also meet new people and create bonds.
We all care for others, whether it be friends, family, or pets. Sometimes in all that caring, we forget to care for ourselves. In order to deal with life’s stresses, it is important to self-care.
