Ever Wonder Why Our Bodies Become Stiff When We Are Stressed?

Stress can cause unnatural muscle tension. Although massage therapy is commonly used for relaxation and pain relief, it can also be an effective therapy for aspects of mental health.

Research supports that massage has a direct relationship with positive health outcomes. When the body tissues are manipulated, messages are sent to the brain to relax the body and release endorphins. This technique increases circulation while simultaneously reducing muscle tension and muscle spasms.

Massage can be an effective part of an overall treatment plan for anxiety, depression, and some types of pain.

It can also improve overall health and wellbeing by increasing flexibility and movement. UNH Health Services offer several different forms of massage therapy for both students and employees, including Swedish, Thai and Deep Tissue massage. Hot Stone massage is a new form of massage service available at UNH. It is a form of specialty massage that uses smooth, flat, heated stones used to sooth different parts of the body to release muscle tension and stress.

The cost for UNH employees is 50 dollars for a traditional massage and 60 dollars for a hot stone massage.

Appointments are available at health services seven days a week by calling (603) 862-3823 or making an appointment online
