What does health mean to you?
Health to me means making sure you nourish your body with healthy foods, but at the same time you pay attention to how you are feeling mentally and physically.

What do you do to make a healthy UNH?
I am part of Nourish UNH, which is a peer mentor group that offers nutrition, wellness and health advice to students and staff through different events and cooking demos. I also share my love of nutrition and wellness by volunteering at the fueling station in the field house, and just by chatting with my friends and classmates about the importance of a well-balanced healthy lifestyle.

How do you stay fit?
I try my best to get myself to the gym at least a couple times a week! I also walk instead taking the bus whenever possible.

Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?

  • Find healthy foods that YOU like and think of different ways to incorporate them in many types of meals
  • Do your best to limit processed foods and focus on whole foods
  • Try replacing an animal protein option with a plant-based protein option once in a while
  • Eat a variety of different foods to ensure your covering all your nutrient needs
  • Choose whole grain when purchasing breads or cereals

How do you find motivation to stay healthy?
For me, I feel 100% better both physically and mentally when I eat healthy and get exercise. I learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in almost all of my classes so it’s almost second nature for me.

Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?
My mood has improved a lot since exercising and eating healthy regularly at school. Moving my body everyday definitely helps to manage all the stress that comes with being a college student.

Anything else you would like to add that might encourage others on campus to make health efforts too?
Find what works best for you! Just because your roommates or friends are being healthy one way doesn’t mean you have to follow exactly what they are doing. Even a small change can make a big difference.
