What does health mean to you?

To me, health means having a healthy and happy mind and body that can support me day to day.

What do you do to make a healthy UNH?

I try to make a healthy UNH through having a healthy attitude and radiating my own positive energy around campus. I think that simply smiling at people and saying hello can go a long way.

How do you stay fit?

I like to the gym when I can. I like to run, lift weights and do other functional training. Sometimes my favorite way to exercise is just dancing around my house with my roommates. It is a great stress reliever and is also a lot of fun.

Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?

I think it is easy to over complicate things when people are starting to try to eat healthfully. You do not need to always make fancy, Instagram-worthy meals. Focus on the basics and consuming lots of whole foods and less highly processed foods. Eating healthfully does not mean that you can never have your favorite yummy treats every now and then. It is about finding a balance and enjoying those things in moderation. Eating healthfully will be different for everyone and should be personalized so that you enjoy the way you are eating every day.

How do you find motivation to stay healthy?

I know that I feel like my happiest and healthiest self when I am eating well and following an all-around healthy routine. I am also motivated by having lots of friends that are also passionate about nutrition and enjoy eating healthfully and cooking.

Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?

I have not seen major tangible improvements, but I feel like it is a much more balanced and sustainable lifestyle than I was living before.

Anything else you would like to add that might encourage others on campus to make healthy changes too?

I think it is important for people to remember that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. I do a lot to manage my stress and to not feel overwhelmed when schoolwork gets daunting. I make sure to give myself plenty of study breaks and make time to spend with friends. Even when I have lots to do, I try to never sacrifice a good night’s sleep. There are so many benefits of getting a good night sleep including reducing stress and allowing your body to recharge and repair itself.
