1. What does health mean to you?
To me, health means how well you currently are in various aspects of your life, whether it’s eating, exercising, your mental mindset, or how you are feeling overall. To be healthy is to make sure you are taking care of yourself in each of these aspects the best you can do: eating healthy while feeling good doing so, enjoying the time to exercise or move around, having a positive mindset, and feeling the best you can be.
2. What do you do to make a healthy UNH?
Being part of Nourish UNH and leading the Student Nutrition Association gives me the opportunity to spread positive messages and advice in making UNH a healthier campus. From spreading mindful eating and body positivity to volunteering within the UNH community, at Waysmeet and the Fueling Station, making UNH healthy starts with getting involved and being passionate about what you do!
3. How do you stay fit?
I have taken up running as my go-to exercise by taking advantage of the beautiful campus. I prefer to run outside, but I often hit the gym when it comes to strength training. I also stay fit by ensuring I eat enough and eat mindfully. A well-balanced meal with all the food groups is what I aim for to make sure I am nourishing myself properly. Exercising and eating well helps clear my mind and keeps me feeling energized to take on the day!
4. Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?
My first tip for healthy eating is making small changes because small changes go a long way. These changes will form a new healthy habit and from there you can keep progressing toward your goals. I also find eating healthy is finding love in what you eat. I follow the idea of that every food can fit on your plate, meaning that you shouldn’t have to feel like you have to exclude a food or food group to eat healthy. Moderation is just as important as enjoyment when it comes to eating!
5. How do you find motivation to stay healthy?
I find motivation in being healthy to be something I enjoy doing. I love creating crazy salads that are tasty every time or making time to play intramural softball as a way to keep moving while having fun. Creating goals is what keeps me going. I’ve recently started to enter running races as a way to challenge myself and to stay motivated in constantly improving!
6. Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?
When I entered college, I did not particularly care for exercising and struggled to finish a mile. Now, I can easily do 5 miles in one go and continue looking forward to my next race. Just seeing this physical improvement and mental change to a healthier outlook has improved my life positively. I firmly believe that you can do anything you put your mind to and there’s always room for improvement!
7. Anything else you would like to add?
It’s never too late to start making those small changes to a healthier and happier life!
