Spotlight on: Molly McQuade
1. What does health mean to you?
To me, health means eating nutritious and staying active. It also means feeling good about yourself inside and out. It is so important to me to make sure my health is up to par so I can live a happy and healthy lifestyle in order to feel good.
2. What do you do to make a healthy UNH?
I make a strong effort to go to the gym at least 3 times a week here at UNH. I also try to choose healthy food using the guiding stars in the dining halls. The resources and food choices provided in the dining halls are very helpful and I take advantage of those opportunities every time I can. Lastly, I encourage my friends to stay physically active and eat healthy as well.
3. How do you stay fit?
I stay fit by always walking to class and anywhere else I need to go on campus, regardless of the fact that my car is parked 5 feet outside of my apartment. I also stay fit by making healthy choices in the dining halls, going to the gym, and participating in intramural sports throughout the year as well.
4. Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?
One tip I always follow when it comes to eating healthfully is trying to eat a "colorful" food plate. By doing this I get a variety of different nutritious food and I always make sure there is at least one thing green in my meal.
5. How do you find motivation to stay healthy?
I like the way that I feel when I am eating healthy and staying active and it boosts my confidence when I feel my best. Seeing people in shape at the gym and around campus also makes me want to workout more.
6. Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?
When I lived farther from the gym then I would have liked, I found myself having a harder time being motivated to go. So, I got a membership to Wildcat Fitness in town and I use this gym much more than the UNH gym because it is much more convenient for me. I also surround myself with people who make me feel happy and laugh at lot and who are positive influences on my life.
7. Anything else you would like to add that might encourage others on campus to make health efforts too?
Get involved in intramural sports it’s a great way to stay active and have an awesome time with friends and/or meet new friends! (especially broom ball it's so fun!)
