Spotlight on: Kassandra Coulombe
1. What does health mean to you?
Health encompasses physical, mental and emotional health. It is important to try to balance all three of these concepts in order to feel healthy on the outside and on the inside.
2. What do you do to make a healthy UNH?
I encouraged healthy eating and an active lifestyle to my closest friends. My friends and I would give each other ideas to make nourishing meals, and also go to the gym together for motivation. In addition, I would always use a reusable water bottle rather than a plastic bottle throughout my time at UNH.
3. How do you stay fit?
I enjoy running as my primary exercise. I find that running is a rewarding exercise both physically and mentally. Running helps reduce my stress and is a great way to track my personal fitness progress. If I don’t run, I like to do small circuit routines during the week to stay fit.
4. Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?
In order to enjoy eating healthy, I like to change up my meals so that I do not become bored with what I eat. I tend to eat a filling breakfast full of nutrients, in order to maintain energy throughout the day. I think it is important to eat three meals a day, with a couple snacks between meals to keep up my energy and not give in to certain food cravings.
5. How do you find motivation to stay healthy?
I find motivation to stay healthy by watching my own fitness and health progress. I think it is important to find a balance between eating healthy and exercising, but also having a few treats every now and then, with rest days. When I feel healthy on the inside, it helps reflect on the outside, which is how I motivate myself to stay healthy.
6. Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?
After reducing the amount of sugar and junk foods from my diet, I have noticed my skin has become completely clear. Also, I try to walk as much as possible wherever I am. If I park at a store, I try to park furthest from the store so I can get some quick steps in.
7. Anything else you would like to add that might encourage others on campus to make health efforts too?
I think it is important that people find a balance between eating right, exercising, socializing, and doing whatever makes them happy. When you feel good physically, mentally and emotionally, being healthy will become a lifestyle rather than a chore.
