Why You Should Choose Generic Drugs
When you go to purchase over the counter medication, we all have faced the problem of do we buy the brand name or the generic version? People tend to be more inclined to purchase the nicely designed boxes of brand name drugs, as opposed to the relatively plain boxes of generic. There are a lot of misconceptions associated with generic drugs:
- Lack of quality. However, generic drugs are exactly the same as their brand name counterparts.
- Effectiveness. Generic drugs perform the same, as they are bioequivalent to the brand name drug.
- Cost control. Switching to generic drug use saves you and the health care system money as it is generally less expensive than brand name drugs.
The next time you go to purchase ibuprofen and start to reach for the brand name version, rethink your instinct and remember that generic drugs provide the same clinical benefits as the brand name version. The generic versions are Federal Drug Administration approved, and you can learn more about them on the FDA’s website.
