Lower Healthcare Costs With Preventive Health Care

It is the norm for many individuals to go to the doctor if, and only if, they feel very ill.  This could be due to an infection, a disease or other health condition--one that may cost a fortune.  What if there was a way to prevent these costs--or better yet, prevent the health problem itself?

Preventive health care services can detect signs of an illness or disease.  Patients can then consult with their doctor about making lifestyle choices or taking medicines that will reduce their risks for certain health conditions.

Preventive services consist of screenings, measurements, immunizations and advice given by a healthcare professional.  These do not require a copay or deductible since every health insurance plan and policy is now required to cover all preventive service costs under the Affordable Care Act.  Services include:

  • Blood pressure screening
  • Cholesterol screening
  • Type 2 Diabetes screening
  • Immunization vaccines
  • Obesity screening and counseling
  • STI counseling and screening
  • Vision screening
  • Cervical cancer screening

There are services specific to adults, to children, and to women, including pregnant women.

In addition to nutrition and physical activity, use preventive services to lower healthcare costs through prevention or early diagnosis.
