As you may have heard before, taking the stairs is a great way to get a little extra exercise into your daily routine. Every step you take adds up throughout the day. Stair climbing is even now considered a "vigorous exercise". In a recent article in BBC, medical correspondent, Fergus Walsh explains why he takes the stairs, stating his impatience for the elevator and his knowledge of the health benefits. Walsh also mentions StepJockey, a new app in the world of health and fitness. StepJockey can track how many steps you take a day and calculate the amount of calories burned. The article claims that you burn 1.5 calories for every 10 steps upward and 1 calorie for every 20 steps downward. StepJockey can locate where your stairs are and rate their intensity (based on how steep they are). You may even start to see the StepJockey signs in stairwells, indicating their intensity and calorie amount, in which you can scan to log your steps for the day.
