Sexual Health

Our goal is to educate UNH students about sexual health by providing accurate information so that students can make informed decisions. Our sexual health programming is applicable to students who are sexually active or who are abstinent. We approach our programming with sex positivity and don’t consider any question or topic taboo. Free condoms and lubrication will be provided at all sexual health programs.

Fact: 1 in 2 sexually active young adults will get an STI (sexually transmitted infection) by the time they are 25.

Fact: Less than 50% of UNH student report using condoms the last time they had sexual intercourse.

Fact: Condoms and other barrier methods can reduce the risk of STIs and unwanted pregnancy.

In this interactive skills-based program, students will have the opportunity to practice putting on and taking off condoms and dental dams with anatomical teaching aids.  Education on why UNH students should be using condoms to prevent STIs will be provided.

This is an interactive lobby program but can be modified to be an educational program.

Our lives are very full with many opportunities and responsibilities. This program offers students a way to look at their personal wellness as a way to better understand and cope with stress.  Participants will learn about the 8 dimensions of wellness, and be guided through creative activities to help them become more aware of just how full their lives are and what they can do to actively bring more balance to their well-being.

THE MINDFUL TWENTY-SOMETHING

It is believed that the human has between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day, and that doesn’t include all the feelings that usually accompany thoughts. This isn’t necessarily helpful when students are trying to manage school and other responsibilities. In this program, participants will learn how practicing mindfulness can assist in concentration, emotional wellness and general well-being. Guided mindfulness and meditation practice will be included. Please dress comfortably.

All it takes is 2 minutes – or even less – to tap out of the stress response and into the relaxation response. In this program, students will learn about stress and relaxation techniques that can be used in and outside of the classroom to minimize the negative effects of stress.

Set yourself up for success by setting goals that are appropriate for where you are right here, right now. This interactive workshop will walk participants through the process of creating specific goals and habits to live a life that is meaningful and fulfilling.

All behavior change starts with personal reflection and awareness. Utilizing our interactive wheel, participants will spin the wellness wheel and based on where they land they will be prompted to think about what they know about that area of wellness and how they are doing in that area of their lives. The prompts provide participants an opportunity to further understand wellness and gain a better understanding where they are thriving and where they may need to insert more self-care.

UNH students report sleep difficulties to be a top concern negatively impacting academic success.  College students need 7+ hours of sleep/night, and many students are getting much less.

This DIY program will equip you with materials and educational material to engage students in a discussion about the importance of sleep, how stress and sleep interact, tips for a better night’s sleep, and all the materials needed for each participant to create a personal aromatherapy eye pillow. This program is self-facilitated and comes with a facilitators guide.

Peer Wellness Ambassador Facilitated:

Looking for a little more out of your sleep program? A wellness ambassador peer educator can kick off the program leading participants through a guided self-exploration activity of participant’s personal sleep habits.  This is a 60 minute program.

Note: All materials for the DIY aromatherapy eye pillows are provided by Health & Wellness. Limit one party per year.

Everyone has the potential to be a strong and confident communicator. Being assertive can be challenging for many people, but will lead to more effective communication, and improved relationships. In this program students will have a chance to explore different communication styles, reflect on their own style of communication, and discover strategies they can use to become more assertive.

Conflict is a common, inevitable part of life. Having the ability to resolve conflict effectively can prevent unnecessary stress, worry, avoidance, or damaged relationships.  Gaining the confidence to effectively approach interpersonal conflict can positively impact our overall well-being. Students will engage in a discussion about their current approach to managing conflict, explore the benefit of resolving conflicts, and build the skills that can turn conflicts into opportunities.
