The Faculty Instructional Technology Summer Institute (FITSI) is a three-day, hands-on learning experience that takes place each year on the Durham campus. A limited number of faculty and instructors in full-time, permanent teaching positions are chosen to participate.
FITSI is designed for faculty who have used technology in their teaching in the past, but would like to do more. The program includes presentations from leaders in the field of Instructional Technology, as well as workshops targeted on technology tools that support teaching. Past workshops have focused on using technology to:
- Promote active learning
- Provide useful and timely feedback
- Digitize course materials
- Promote collaboration
- Encourage critical thought
- Enhance student engagement
- Deliver course content online
This year, FITSI will see some changes in format. The Summer event will be shorter to allow for other opportunities to network during the academic year, culminating in a Winter event on January 12, 2016. During the Summer event, participants will draft a teaching plan which will be advanced in the Fall semester. At the Winter event, participants will share their experiences and lessons learned.
