Position Description for Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps Summer Associate:

Diversified Farm Apprentice

One of our endeavors at Brookford Farm is to be a training ground for future farmers. Each year, we train several apprentices who work on all aspects of farm operations, including gardening, dairy farming and general animal care.  Apprentices are fully immersed in farm life and participate in seasonal and daily farm cycles from preparing beds in the spring to moving chicken fences in late morning.

Food Preservation Intern

This is a new position for someone who would work in all aspects of farming, but specifically with the chef who is canning our produce for sale at farmers markets and at farm stands.

Approx 15 hours a week, and will be paid a stipend of $100/week. We will start off with our strawberry crop, then move to peaches, and end up with tomatoes and figs. We are also looking to establish a line of dried herbs.

Beginning Farmers

WASHINGTON (March 28, 2016) – Cultivating the next generation of farmers and ranchers to carry on the legacy of American agriculture is the main focus of the National Farmers Union (NFU) Beginning Farmer Institute. NFU encourages new farmers, starting an operation of any size, to apply for the 2016-17 program class.

Through sessions hosted in Washington D.C. and California, the program’s hands-on training emphasizes many of the challenges beginning farmers may face in their careers, such as business planning, access to capital, land acquisition, marketing, and more.
