The New River Gorge Foodshed VISTA will work closely with Coalition staff on foodshed development projects in the New River Gorge region of West Virginia (Raleigh, Summers, Fayette, and Nicholas Counties). The VISTA will work with community members and local food and farm businesses and organizations in the region to assess the strengths and needs of the local food system in the region and help communities plan projects that address these needs.

Job Overview

The Highland Center is looking for a motivated individual to coordinate numerous local food projects in and around Highland County.

The work of the Local Foods Coordinator strengthens the food system throughout our mountainous region by assisting farmers, growing the local food economy, and preserving its rich agricultural heritage.

The Farm to School (F2S) Coordinator will work as an integral part of Food Roots programming. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the F2S Coordinator will be responsible for daily implementation of Food Roots Farm to School program and include ongoing program development, implementation, evaluation, and include some program budget management. The F2S Coordinator will work closely with the ED, Community Food Programs Coordinator, FoodCorps and Americorps VISTA members.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Persephone Farm is seeking an energetic food enthusiast to work at our farm stand at the Salem Saturday Market.

Work is every Saturday in April and again in June through October. Work days start as early as 6:15 am and finish as late as 5 pm.

Compensation is $9.25/hour plus free produce.

Retail and marketing experience is helpful.
