 FarmsNext is a full season entry-level residential internship program that combines hands-on training and skills-based education in sustainable agriculture.

Farming Apprenticeship

Amber Waves Farm apprentices will spend a season (April - November) at the farm learning how to grow food organically and sustainably by working hands-on in all areas of the farm’s activities. Apprentices will coordinate with head farmers about day-to-day farm operations, from field work to farmers market preparations. In the field, apprentices will master technical skills associated with plant propagation, greenhouse production, crop rotations and soil health, harvesting, and tractor work.

Beginner Farmer Apprenticeship

Soil Born Farms is seeking five full-season farm apprentices for the 2016 season. The apprenticeship runs from March 1 to October 31Please submit your application by January 6th, 2016. The goal of the apprenticeship program at Soil Born Farms is to provide training for aspiring farmers by teaching the basic concepts and practical applications of organic food production. 

Livestock Apprentice

McEnroe Organic Farm in Millerton, NY, a NOFA-NY certified organic farm, with over 1,000 acres allotted for organic fruits & vegetables as well as grain, hay, pasture (for poultry, pigs, beef cattle and sheep), composting and woodland. We are seeking a full time, seasonal Livestock Apprentice to help care for our organic and naturally raised beef cattle, pigs, poultry (turkeys & broiler chickens) and sheep. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has a strong interest in working with livestock on a commercial scale.

Extension Faculty

Here is an opening with the Oregon State University Small Farms Program (part of the Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems). It is a 0.75 FTE extension faculty position with opportunities for full time employment (funding is recurring). It is located in Salem, Oregon in the mid-Willamette Valley of western Oregon (about 60 minutes south of Portland). The position collaborates with other Small Farms faculty in a very effective team. The OSU Small Farms program focuses on organic/biological/sustainable approaches to farming and enhancement of local/regional food systems.
