Stephanie is a Clinical Assistant Professor in our Medical Laboratory Science program. She was originally hired to teach courses in clinical chemistry, and in her first year re-designed her assigned courses to update and invigorate that part of the MLS curriculum. Following a second retirement in the program, it was decided that Stephanie’s teaching responsibilities would shift to cover the hematology curricula, resulting in her modifying, re-designing, and delivering another set of new courses in her second year. Stephanie has undertaken 11 new course preparations since her appointment just four years ago, and has covered 16 different courses, including lectures and laboratories, clinical internships, case studies and undergraduate teaching experiences. Throughout this, she has compiled a mean overall teaching effectiveness score of 4.86, with a range of 4.62 to seven instances of a perfect 5.0. Her faculty colleagues are similarly complimentary of her abilities and effectiveness.
Stephanie is a leading innovator in using academic technology and active learning approaches, and served on the committee to determine the best online class management system for UNH. She served on the cross-colleges faculty team in the development, execution and evaluation of the inter-professional health care education and practice colloquium, a collaborative effort with professors and students from six other programs in CHHS and COLSA. It is designed to offer students (and their faculty) the opportunity to engage with each other, and with diverse healthcare disciplines, in problem-based teams.
Our Med Lab Science program has a 100 percent pass rate for majors who took ASCP boards within one year of graduation. Stephanie Clarke’s excellence in teaching, caring about students and devotion to the university community is a strong contributor to that distinctive outcome.
