Master Sergeant Terry Slaght grew up in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Army in May of 2001 and attended OSUT at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was assigned to 1/17th Cavalry, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
MSG Slaght has served in every leadership position in the Scout profession and has also served as an instructor at the Advanced Leadership Course and as an Observer Controller Trainer. His stateside assignments include: Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Polk, Louisiana. His overseas assignments were Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska. He has deployed three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve. He deployed twice to
Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and deployed as part of Southwest Border Support.
MSG Slaght’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (2x Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (2x Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation medal (4x Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (3x Oak Leaf Clusters), Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (x2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Iraq Campaign Medal, Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
He is married to Melissa Slaght and they have three children, Dylan, Molly and Collin.
