Public History Minor

The public history minor is designed to provide students with the skills to work in the public as an historian. Public historians work in museums, archives, libraries, historic associations, historic houses, parks, zoos, arboretums, businesses, corporations, and in public planning of urban and environmental landscapes. Public historians work on translating historical research to the broad public audience.  

The minor is composed of five courses of 4 credits each, including an introduction to public history course and an internship, HIST 691, at a local historical site.

A) HIST 500, Historical Methods

B) HIST 595, Issues in Public History

C) 8 credits in public history courses approved by minor supervisor at the 500/600 level

D) 4-credit Internship, HIST 691
