ECS 500 - Proseminar

The Proseminar aims to expose students to a variety of
approaches in the Cultural Studies field, drawing on
different disciplines and focusing on representative themes
within cultural studies.
ECS 550 - Critical Methods in Cultural Studies
Credits:
4.00
Critical analysis of works in Cultural Studies. Focus on
major texts, evaluation of secondary texts, research
writing, criticism. Required of all ECS majors. (Also
listed as HUMA 500.) Writing intensive.
ECS 798 - Thesis Research
Credits:
1.00
Part of a two-semester capstone experience for the ECS
major. Students work with their advisors and peers to
formulate their topic, consider appropriate approaches,
locate relevant resources, and prepare a bibliography for a
thesis paper on a topic related to European Cultural
Studies. During the course of the semester, students meet
regularly with their advisor to discuss research materials.
If time permits, students also plan the outline of the
thesis.
ECS 799 - Senior Thesis
Credits:
3.00 to 4.00
Part of a two-course capstone experience for the ECS major.
Students work with their advisors and peers to formulate
their topic and write a major research paper, between 25
and 50 pages long, on a topic related to European Cultural
Studies. During the course of the semester, students meet
regularly with their advisor to discuss the outline and
rough draft of the thesis, and to go over revisions to the
paper. The course culminates in the defense of the thesis
before a committee of three ECS faculty members. If student
schedules permit it, we also hold meetings of all seniors
who are currently writing an ECS thesis so that students
may exchange ideas and offer peer feedback to each other.
