February 18The Concert. A celebrated conductor working as a janitor at the Bolshoi for 30 years launches a plot with fellow musicians to perform at a famed concert hall in France.  Music by Tchaikovsky.   Subtitles.

February 25Manhattan. Set amid glorious scenes of Manhattan in Woody Allen’s love letter to NYC, we see the often-complicated relationships of some of its inhabitants.  Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton and Mariel Hemingway perform with Woody in the 1979 film.  A wonderful soundtrack opens with Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”.

March 4The Story of Gilbert and Sullivan. Ellie is determined to make Savoyards of us all now with a new and improved copy of this 1953 film.  Maurice Evans and Robert Morley star as Martyn Green performs songs from favorite Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.  The film depicts the sometimes-stormy relationships among William Gilbert, Arthur Sullivan, and the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company.

March 11 Moonstruck is a 1988 film with Cher, Nicolas Cage, and Olympia Dukakis.  A lovely story and a wonderful soundtrack add up to more than a feel-good movie.  We all might even sing along with Dean Martin’s “Amore.”
