Barry Conservation Camp (BCC) is operated by the UNH Cooperative Extension 4-H Program in cooperation with the N.H. Department of Fish and Game. It is located in the White Mountain National Forest at the Berlin Fish Hatchery. BCC provides a close-knit community for its 38 campers and 11 staff. There are six cabins, each housing up to seven campers and a counselor. Campers are grouped by age and gender. There are central toilets, shower facilities, and a dining hall complete with kitchen.
Barry Conservation 4-H Camp is a great program for kids who love the outdoors, enjoy hands-on learning in environmental and conservation programs, and can benefit from participating in a small camp. Staff take pride in creating a special place where kids can discover their individual strengths. Campers and staff work together as a team in the hope that everyone leaves camp with a greater awareness of themselves and the world around them.
Day camp for kids entering Grades 1 - 7.
Wildcat Teen program for youth entering Grades 8 - 9.
Campers will have a chance to explore nature and the environment, participate in sports, learn new skills and crafts, make new friends, and have fun while being active this summer!
2014 camp sessions include 2 two-week traditional day camp sessions, two Outdoor Adventure Weeks, and a Travel Week:
2-week Day Camp Sessions
The day camp sessions include sport, art, and adventure activities held at the UNH fields, the indoor pool, and Mendum's Pond Outdoor Recreation Area. Weekly trips take campers to NH State Parks and other local points of interest. In addition, campers receive Red Cross swim lessons four days a week.
During this week campers explore, learn, and have fun away from the UNH campus. Trips for 2014 are not all confirmed, but in the past trips included: the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, Seacoast Science Center, Polar Caves, Liquid Planet, Wallis Sands Beach, Isle of Shoals Boat Tour, and Water Country.
Outdoor Adventure Weeks
A popular offering has been expanded to two separate weeks in 2014. These one-week sessions emphasize life-long activities and the great outdoors in NH. Activities have included kayaking, climbing, woodsmen activities, skateboarding, and much more.
Wildcat Teens is a program that fosters community spirit, volunteerism, and peer leadership. It is divided into two 2-week sessions coordinated with Sessions 1 & 2 of camp. Wildcat Teens are also able to participate fully in the specialty weeks as Teen Campers. An application and interview is required; view the Camp Wildcat website for detailed information.
Whatever your age or sailing ability, the UNH Community Sailing Center (UNHCSC) has an affordable sailing program for you.
The primary aim of the UNHCSC programs are to have fun on the water, make new friends, and build self confidence while teaching skills that are enjoyed over a lifetime.
Classes focusing on different skill levels (i.e. beginner, intermediate, advanced) are offered throughout the summer from beginner to advanced and racing sailor and kayaker.
We offer sailing and kayaking programs from ages 5-18 on Mendums Pond in Barrington, one of the most beautiful lakes in NH. The UNHCSC is home to the competitive UNH Sailing Team and M.S.S.T. (Mendums Seacoast Sailing Team) -- a combined middle and high school sailing team.
