Graduate students

Graduate students can benefit from the Connors Writing Center in much the same way as undergraduates. Our staff is well trained to address the unique needs of students working on theses, dissertations, and other writing projects, as well as cover letters and resumes.

We have experienced writing assistants who are current or former graduate students and are familiar with the formats and genres of writing at the graduate level. We provide the option for you to work with the same graduate writing assistant on a long project, such as a dissertation, to facilitate consistent collaboration.

For projects that are less than 15 pages, you can schedule a regular one-hour session with any of our writing assistants. To address a longer work, we suggest that you schedule a brief 15-minute conference with a graduate writing assistant to review your goals for the paper. The writing assistant will then take your paper and read it separately, scheduling additional one-hour conferences with you, as needed, to discuss his or her feedback and your questions or concerns.

The Writing Center also offers an Online Writing Lab (OWL) for you to submit projects for review and editorial feedback.

When you call or email for an appointment, please identify yourself as a graduate student and provide the page length and topic of your paper. We will then be better able to match you with a writing assistant that is the most qualified to assist you.

Given our limited resources, we are not able to provide editing services for completed or extensive dissertations, manuscripts, or other publishable pieces. We can, however, work with you to locate a freelance editor who would be able to assist you.
