NEW HAMPSHIRE VICTIMS'
COMPENSATION PROGRAM

Anyone can be a victim of a violent crime -- children, teenagers, people who are mentally and physically disabled, the elderly, and women and men, regardless of race, sexual orientation or economic status.

As a victim or survivor of a violent crime in New Hampshire, you may apply for compensation from the New Hampshire Victims' Assistance Commission. You can request up to $10,000 in compensation for hospital/medical expenses, funeral expenses, loss of wages or other out of pocket expenses. You may also be eligible for as much as to $2,000 in mental health therapy costs. In order to qualify there must be no other form of third party payment (e.g., life insurance or medical insurance). Property losses are not covered. You may be eligible for compensation if:

• The crime resulted in personal injury or death;
• You or your loved one did not contribute in any way to the personal injury or death;
• Your compensable expenses are/were more than $100;
• The crime occurred in New Hampshire on or after 11/02/89 (except in certain cases involving children);
• The crime was reported to law enforcement within 5 days of the incident (except in special circumstances); or
• A claim for compensation was filed within one year, unless circumstances beyond your control kept you from doing so.
