The group will assist college women in starting to learn more about themselves, how to communicate clearly, develop healthy relationships, celebrate their sexuality and learn how to take care of themselves. Tuesday, February 19, 7:00pm, MUB Theater I. Film and Discussion: Beyond the Looking Glass: Body Image and Self-Esteem. This documentary addresses a common dilemma among young adults: how to develop a genuine sense of identity in a society where sleek, idealized bodies have become standards to which we believe we must conform. Rita Friedman, author of the book Bodylove, explores ways to fight against the self-consciousness and shame that many young people feel about their bodies. Office of Health Education and Promotion.

Tuesday, April 8, 7:00pm, MUB Strafford Room. The Pomegranate Seed: An Exploration of Appetite, Body Image and Myth in Modern Culture with Cosy Sheridan. National award-winning songwriter, Cosy Sheridan will perform her one-women show, the Pomegranate seed. The show takes on media's messages about women's bodies as she retells a modern-day version of the Greek myth of Persephone's journey to the underworld. This is a story of finding meaning in life's experiences. Office of Health Education and Promotion.

Wednesday, April 9, 12:00-1:00pm, MUB Strafford Room. Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, Professor Eileen McNamara will deliver the keynote address at the Commission Luncheon Celebration
with a talk on "gender and race as they apply to the 2008 presidential election". Following the address, the Commission on the Status of Women will present awards to faculty, staff and student members of the UNH community for their contributions to promoting equity and advancing the status of women. To reserve a space at the luncheon, RSVP by April 3 to Janice or call 862.1058

Wednesday, April 9, 5:00pm, MUB Theatre I, Eileen McNamara will speak about
"Responsible Journalism in a Diverse and Changing World
". Professor McNamara became a Professor of the Practice of Journalism at Brandeis University in fall 2007 after completing a career at The Boston Globe. On the way to winning the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1997, she earned awards from Sigma Delta Chi, The American Society of Newspaper Editors, and the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation. In 2007, she was named a winner of the Yankee Quill Award, the highest individual honor given by the Academy of New England Journalists.
McNamara says, "Journalism has a profound effect on society. We ignore it at our peril." Event is open to all, no admission fee.
