"Indien en Costume Gris" (Indian in a gray costume), ca. 1704
Tatooed and armed Native (Acadian?) dressed in a wool capote, which is a modified sailor's garment used by French soldiers and Natives alike. Secured by only one button at the next but otherwise belted, the capote usually had a hood and was worn in all seasons.
