Contemporary Indigenous New England Artists

Dee Ko

Dee Ko is Eastern Cherokee from Mashpee, MA. She's a contemporary artist using traditional motifs and materials.

"My fascination with art began at an early age. Since then I've explored and researched the indigenous art of the South Pacific. The greatest thing about art is there are no boundaries. I've enjoyed carving wampum in honor of my east coast ancestors . . . bead work, leather work, metal work, and painting . . . there's no end to what the imagination can do, or where my ancestors will lead me. So I tune into the vibes and go with the flow. Art is my life . . . and I'm still learning and enjoying this journey. I hope to leave a legacy of inspiration for my descendants."
