Members of the American Brahms Society receive the society’s Newsletter biannually. The Newsletter offers a diverse selection of writing on Brahms’s life, music, and cultural milieu. Each issue contains a feature article, some shorter essays, and a wide range of information of interest to Brahms enthusiasts and scholars, including conference reports, reviews of recent books, scores, and compact discs, and lists of recent scholarly articles and public presentations concerning Brahms and his music. he Newsletter

ABS Listserve

The American Brahms Society now maintains a list serve for topics related to Johannes Brahms, his music, current Brahms scholarship, etc. All are welcome to participate, and may send posts to the moderator. At the request of members, we have also established an Archive for postings: http://mailman2.u.washington.edu/pipermail/american_brahms_society/

The Karl Geiringer Fund in Brahms Studies

Established in 1990 to honor the dedication of the late Karl Geiringer to
graduate education and to build upon his legacy to Brahms research, the Karl
Geiringer Fund in Brahms Studies is awarded annually as meritorious
candidates present themselves. The competition is open to students who are
in the final stages of preparing a doctoral dissertation written in English.
Only those projects that demonstrate significant original thought and
research are considered competitive. The decision on awarding the fund rests
with the Board of Directors of the American Brahms Society.

Conferences

The American Brahms Society periodically sponsors conferences on various aspects of Brahms studies. Past events have included: The International Brahms Conference at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., 1983; Brahms the Contemporary at Harvard University, 1997; Brahms: Perspectives of Performance at Boston University, 2001; and Brahms and Memory at the University of New Hampshire, 2008. As future events are planned they will be posted here, as will be any conference that might be of particular interest to Brahms scholars and enthusiasts. Brahms Studies

From 1994-2001 the American Brahms Society published a series of Brahms Studies Three volumes were published by the University of Nebraska Press under the editorship of David Brodbeck, including documentary studies; criticism, analysis, theory, and biography.
